45 days and counting…

by Canes Pundit on July 19, 2010

We are a mere 45 days away from the start of the 2010 season.  The Florida A&M Rattlers visit Sun Life Stadium Thursday, September 2nd in the first game of the Miami Hurricanes’ 2010 season.  Expectations are higher this year, and deservedly so.  Below are a list of some upcoming key dates leading up to the start of the season:

July 31st – Broward BankUnited CanesFest, 11am – 1pm, Broward Convention Center (players scheduled to appear: Leonard Hankerson, Jared Wheeler, Brandon McGee, Andrew Smith, Allen Bailey, Graig Cooper, and Spencer Whipple).

August 3rd – Seantrel Henderson reports to campus

August 5th – First day of Fall Practice, Greentree Football Field

September 2nd – 1st game vs. Florida A&M, Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL

Quick Hits: Only 20 days until the NFL preseason opener (Cowboys/Bengals in the Hall of Fame Game)…..From what I hear, the consensus Top 4 in fantasy football is Chris Johnson, MJD, Peterson, and Ray Rice. #5 appears to be the drop off this year. Not sure if you go Gore, Andre Johnson, or someone else…..Am I the only one watching ‘The Ocho Cinco Show,’ ‘The T.O. Show,’ and ‘The Bachelorette’? Don’t judge me. We’re still 45 days away from kickoff. Some of those chics on ‘The Ocho Cinco Show’ look like they have multiple STDs…..So Mayweather passed on a fight with Pacquiao. Pussy…..Anyone see the dude who won the British Open? That gap in his front two teeth would make Strahan jealous. Seriously, you can drop in 2 or 3 nickels in that slot…..CanesPundit.com’s other editor is on vacation in Hawaii right now. That’s right, I’m slaving away amidst a sea of Hurricane media guides and newspaper clippings, and that dude is kicked back on the beach with his lady friend (knowing him, he’s probably sippin on some fruity drink with an umbrella in it). F’er.

The doldrums kinda suck, huh? Love Mayweather’s in ring brilliance, but everything in between fights makes me wanna punch him in the brain.
Best pure boxer of the last decade, though.

Like it or not.

Made it back from Hawaii…15 hours later than scheduled. Better than floating somewhere in the middle of the Pacific.

Let’s all be honest with ourselves – the real date we’re all looking forward to is 54 days away. OSU is the bellweather game. But it’s not do or die. Pitt, Clemson and FSU after the OSU game – that’s do or die.

For whatever reason Mayweather has for not signing that contract – if he really wants to be heralded as the pound-for-pound best boxer in the game, he needs to beat the best. Manny Pacquiao is standing in the way…settle it in the ring. Like that or not.

Oh Hurriphin…you had so much promise with your name…A Canes fan AND a Phins fan. You are one of us. But then you go and say that Mayweather is the best of the decade. C’mon man…it’s Pacquaio who won (and deservedly so) the fighter of the decade award recently. Pure boxing skills? OK, I’ll give that to Floyd. But, no one takes on opponents like Manny (Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Oscar, Cotto) and he’s dominated them all.

As for the Canes…even if they lose to Ohio State (and Pitt for that matter), as long as they win the ACC, the season will be considered a success. (as it should)
